September 10, 2002
For those of you that missed the GABS meeting this week....here is a recap of
the issues discussed.
1. GABS invited seminar speakers.
David Lynch has confirmed his talk on September 30th entitled,
"Cytokines
and
Receptor-specific mAb in Immune Responses to Cancer and HIV"
Also, William Rice will be here on December 2nd.
2. The fall graduate student seminar series.
We have decided to change the meeting time to 11:30 on Thursdays in
order to
allow students with 12:30 classes to attend. We have several
people signed up
to present this semester, but we still have openings if you are
interested
in
presenting your data and/or ideas to other graduate students.
Please see Cliff
for additional sign up times.
3. Preparing Future Faculty
If you are interested in learning more about this organization, there
is a link
on the GABS website www.biol.sc.edu/gabs. For additional information, you can
refer to the National Office web page: http://www.preparing-faculty.org
4. Baruch Spring Retreat
We have decided on an earlier date this year to avoid conflict with
finals and
end of the semester crunch time. We are looking into dates
for the last
weekend of March or the first weekend of April. We will keep
you updated.
Thank you to all who attended the meeting. I think it
was
a fairly good
turnout.
